Our Story
Mission, Faith, Community
Welcome to Missio Dei, a missional community and church planting site. Our journey is one of faith, mission, and the power of community. We believe in the transformative power of the gospel to impact lives and bring about change. We aim to create a welcoming community where people can explore and deepen their faith. Our commitment to serving others and spreading the message of love and hope through Jesus Christ drives everything we do. We are the Global Methodist Mission in eastern Maine. Join us on this exciting journey of faith, mission, and community.

We are currently a missional community in formation. Our mission, as our name indicates, is the mission of God. We seek to engage community and culture with the message of the Gospel, bring those we meet into an encounter with Jesus, and to disciple them as missionaries to those in their homes, neighborhoods, schools, workplaces. We do this by loving and serving our neighbor, and worshiping God in authentic and sincere ways.

As a new community in formation our initiatives and composition will be determined in part by those whom the Holy Spirit sends us. If you would like to learn more or have a conversation with us, please get in touch.

What is the Global Methodist Church?
The Global Methodist Church launched on May 1, 2022 by leadership from the United Methodist Church who believed that the UMC was no longer faithful to Scripture, Biblical teaching, and orthodox Christian doctrine. In 2 years it has grown to approximately 4500 congregations.
What do Global Methodists believe?
"Methodism" began in the 1720's at Oxford University when John and Charles Wesley sought to deepen their faith through spiritual disciplines and applying their faith to their daily life. They both served as clergy in the Church of England but took the revolutionary step of moving the church outside of formal church buildings and into communities of laborers and average people. Thousands came to be taught and discipled in Scriptural Christian living. They believed that being a follower of Jesus Christ meant much more than church attendance on Sunday. It meant a transformed life based upon the two greatest comandments: to love God and to love our neighbor. John Wesley's goal was the spread of "Scriptural Christianity" over all of England. He and his supporters largely accomplished this goal through religious "societies" housing small groups with discipleship and accountability, along with evangelical worship services.
In general The Global Methodist Church believes in Biblical Christianity. It could be described as traditional and orthodox, but neither theologically liberal nor fundamentalist. Beginning as a reform movement within the Church of England, Methodism's core beliefs are very similar to those of Anglicanism. While Scripture is primary it is interpreted through the lens of tradition, reason, and experience. In the tradition of John Wesley, we believe that being a follower of Jesus Christ is reflected in our daily lives as we serve God and our neighbor.
Belief about Jesus is what matters, not political beliefs. Our primary allegiance is to God's Kingdom.
